Born in Perth, Australia in 1948, Wall was the first female squash player to become professional. However, during her mid-20s she semi-retired from squash because she was restricted from playing in Australia due to her professional status. During her semi-retired stage, she ran a coaching school in Perth and managed her fathers squash centre. It was until 1976, when Barbara Wall travelled to Sydney to watch the Australian championships, members of the British team told her she could play professionally in British tournaments. From that moment on, she decided squash was her future. She was also chosen in the Australian team for the first ever Women’s World Team Championship in 1979 alongside Rhonda Clayton, Vicki Cardwell, Sue King and Anne Smith, where they finished second to a combined Great Britain team. After nearly 20 years away from the sport, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Wall said being inducted into the Hall of Fame was a huge honour for her.
